S&P 500 annual cap rate

9.6% cap on S&P 500

A ten-year-surrender fixed indexed annuity from an A-rated Corebridge carrier, built for index-linked accumulation across cap, participation, and fixed-trigger strategies on a mix of recognizable benchmark and proprietary volatility-controlled indexes, with no income rider and no premium bonus.

Best fit

Buyers committed to a full ten-year deferral who want index-linked accumulation, value the ability to mix crediting designs (cap, participation, trigger) on the same S&P 500 exposure, and don't need a guaranteed lifetime-income rider built into the contract.

Product analyst notes

How to think about this contract

Why it can stand out

  • Carrier financial-strength is rated by three independent agencies (A.M. Best, S&P, and Moody's), so the strength view is not a single-source read.
  • Three crediting designs are offered on the S&P 500 alone — annual point-to-point cap, participation rate, and a fixed-rate trigger — so a buyer who wants S&P exposure can pick the mechanic that best fits their view of the index, rather than being locked into a single style.
  • Index menu spans recognizable benchmark indexes (S&P 500, Russell 2000, MSCI EAFE) alongside proprietary volatility-controlled options (Franklin Quality Dividend Total Return 5%, ML Strategic Balanced, PIMCO Global Optima), so the buyer can choose between like-for-like cap comparison and higher-participation alternatives.
  • Free-withdrawal allowance and the full ten-year surrender ladder are visible on this page, so the schedule of penalty-free liquidity is not gated behind a sales brochure.

What to confirm

  • This contract is not a guaranteed-lifetime-withdrawal product. There is no GLWB income rider attached — the live feed shows an empty income-rider list — and the only contract-level enhancements are surrender-charge waivers (nursing home, terminal illness, RMD). Do not compare its payout side-by-side with a rider-led income FIA.
  • The ten-year surrender term is at the long end of the FIA market, with a high first-year surrender charge that does not drop into the low single digits until late in the schedule. Buyers who do not need a full ten-year deferral should compare a shorter-surrender FIA before locking in.
  • There is no premium bonus and no death-benefit roll-up on this contract — the death benefit is the standard contract value, with no guaranteed legacy bump. Buyers prioritizing a legacy step-up should evaluate that separately.
  • Several of the listed indexes (Franklin Quality Dividend Total Return 5%, ML Strategic Balanced, PIMCO Global Optima) are proprietary volatility-controlled benchmarks. Participation rates on these strategies can look high in absolute terms but are not directly comparable to an uncontrolled S&P 500 cap — evaluate each strategy on its own merits. The guaranteed-minimum cap floor on this contract is also very low, so caps and participation rates can reset down toward that floor over the ten-year surrender term, and the buyer carries that renewal risk for the full term. New York buyers should note that this contract is not available in NY; Corebridge offers separate NY-only FIA filings instead.

Not ideal for

Buyers who need a contractually guaranteed GLWB-rider withdrawal rate, want a shorter surrender commitment, expect a premium bonus to offset a long surrender term, or want a death-benefit roll-up beyond the standard contract value — none of those are what this contract is built to deliver. Also not available to New York residents on this contract.

Common questions about AG Choice Index 10

Can I lose money in AG Choice Index 10?

A negative index return by itself does not reduce the contract's account value: AG Choice Index 10 credits 0% — the floor — for that indexed period. The account value can still decrease from applicable rider fees, Performance Rate Rider or other strategy charges, administrative charges, withdrawals, surrender charges, or other contract-specific deductions. In years with no credited interest, those deductions can reduce the account value. Up to 10% of your value can be withdrawn each year without a charge; withdrawals above the penalty-free amount during the surrender period can incur a surrender charge.

Is the Lifetime Income Max income rider worth the 1% fee?

It depends on whether you will use the guaranteed income. If you are accumulating only, you can skip it. If you want guaranteed lifetime income later, the 10% roll-up and 6.9% withdrawal rate can make it worthwhile — model it in the Income tab of the analyzer above.

When can I access my money without a surrender charge?

Up to 10% of your account value each year is penalty-free. The scheduled surrender charges run 10 years; after that the surrender-charge schedule ends. Bonus vesting, market value adjustments when applicable, and other contract rules can still affect the amount available. The Liquidity tab of the analyzer shows the year-by-year surrender charge.

How do AG Choice Index 10's crediting strategies compare?

Use "Compare against" in the analyzer to overlay another current AG Choice Index 10 strategy on the same premium, age, years, and hypothetical index path. The control labels the strategy type, rate, index, and context so caps, participation rates, triggers, spreads, and fixed-account choices are not treated as interchangeable.

Crediting design

How the interest-crediting choices are framed

AG Choice Index 10 currently shows 47 distinct indexed or fixed crediting choices across 54 displayed rate entries, including S&P 500 Index, with 28 volatility-controlled index options grouped separately. These choices matter because caps, participation rates, fixed accounts, spreads, renewal terms, and fee-bearing rider variants are different mechanics and should not be ranked as one simple rate list.

  • S&P 500 Index: 9.6% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 5% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 2.75% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 8.6% annual cap

Income rider language

What to look for before treating the rider as income

Lifetime Income Max is the main income rider listed for this product. Rider terms can affect the tradeoff between future lifetime withdrawals, contract value, beneficiary value, and cost, so the exact state version and rider election should be confirmed before comparing it to annuitization or income-only contracts.

  • 6.9% withdrawal rate
  • 1% rider fee
  • 10 deferral years

Liquidity terms

Why access rules deserve as much attention as rates

A fixed indexed annuity can preserve more control than an income-only contract, but access is still governed by the surrender schedule, free-withdrawal terms, and waiver language. Those details are where many product comparisons become more meaningful than a simple rate list.

  • 10%/yr free withdrawal
  • 10 surrender years
  • Nursing home waiver
  • RMD waiver
  • Terminal illness waiver

Verification note

For the current brochure, rate sheet, or specimen contract, confirm the state-specific version with the carrier or a licensed financial professional.

  • Rates and rider terms can vary by state and issue age
  • Carrier guarantees depend on claims-paying ability
