A ten-year, accumulation-only fixed indexed annuity from an A.M. Best A-rated carrier pairing a recognizable no-fee S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap with proprietary volatility-controlled indexes and optional 'with fee' allocation-charge variants — no income rider, no premium bonus, no market value adjustment.

Best fit

Accumulation-focused buyers who can lock principal for the full ten-year surrender, want recognizable S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap exposure as their baseline, and want the optional ability to add proprietary participation-rate strategies (with or without an allocation charge) from a mid-tier A-rated carrier — and who do not need any lifetime-income guarantee from the contract.

Product analyst notes

How to think about this contract

Why it can stand out

  • Crediting menu pairs a recognizable no-fee S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap with a slate of higher-participation alternatives — proprietary volatility-controlled indexes (Morgan Stanley Enhanced Allocation, SG Global Balanced) and an S&P 500 0.5% decrement variant — so a buyer gets at least one like-for-like S&P comparison point alongside richer-curve options inside the same contract.
  • Several index strategies are offered in both a no-fee variant and a 'with fee' allocation-charge variant that lifts the cap or participation in exchange for a recurring strategy fee, so buyers who want to pay for a richer crediting curve have that lever without leaving the contract.
  • A guaranteed-minimum floor is documented in the live feed for caps, participation rates, and the fixed account, so the contract's worst-case crediting behavior is contractually defined rather than left to renewal discretion.
  • Free-withdrawal allowance, the full ten-year surrender ladder, the no-MVA flag, and the nursing-home waiver are all visible directly on this page rather than gated behind a sales brochure, and the contract has no market value adjustment on partial withdrawals above the free amount.

What to confirm

  • This is NOT a guaranteed-lifetime-withdrawal product and not a built-in-income contract. The live feed shows no income riders attached and no Protected Income Value mechanism — do not read 'Growth Commander' as an income story. Buyers comparing to GLWB-rider products should recognize that there is no contractual lifetime payout rate to compare here at all.
  • The 'with fee' strategy variants carry a recurring annual allocation charge deducted from the accumulation value regardless of index performance — the enhanced cap or participation has to outrun that drag every year to be worth choosing over the no-fee version of the same strategy.
  • Several index options are proprietary, volatility-controlled indexes (Morgan Stanley Enhanced Allocation, SG Global Balanced) whose participation rates can look high in absolute terms but are not directly comparable to an S&P 500 cap. The S&P 500 IQ 0.5% Decrement variant is also not the same index as the plain S&P 500 — it has a built-in 0.5%/yr drag — so its higher cap is not free.
  • Carrier financial strength is rated by a single agency (A.M. Best A) in this feed, so the strength view here is single-sourced rather than triangulated across multiple agencies. The standard death benefit pays cash surrender value, not account value or a rolled-up income base — heirs receive what the buyer would receive on a non-penalty surrender, which can be materially lower than an account-value-based death benefit on a competing contract.

Not ideal for

Buyers who need a contractually guaranteed lifetime withdrawal rate from a GLWB rider, a built-in Protected Income Value income mechanism, short-surrender liquidity, an upfront premium bonus, a market-value-adjustment-protected exit, or an account-value-based death benefit — none of those are what this contract is structured to deliver.

Accumulation profile

Accumulation-focused contract

Current CANNEX information identifies this product as tax-deferred accumulation. Compare cap, participation rate, fees, liquidity, and surrender terms; use a separate payout-focused contract when guaranteed payout mechanics are required.

Common questions about Growth Commander 10

Can I lose money in Growth Commander 10?

A negative index return by itself does not reduce the contract's account value: Growth Commander 10 credits 0% — the floor — for that indexed period. The account value can still decrease from applicable rider fees, Performance Rate Rider or other strategy charges, administrative charges, withdrawals, surrender charges, or other contract-specific deductions. In years with no credited interest, those deductions can reduce the account value. Up to 10% of your value can be withdrawn each year without a charge; withdrawals above the penalty-free amount during the surrender period can incur a surrender charge.

When can I access my money without a surrender charge?

Up to 10% of your account value each year is penalty-free. The scheduled surrender charges run 10 years; after that the surrender-charge schedule ends. Bonus vesting, market value adjustments when applicable, and other contract rules can still affect the amount available. The Liquidity tab of the analyzer shows the year-by-year surrender charge.

How do Growth Commander 10's crediting strategies compare?

Use "Compare against" in the analyzer to overlay another current Growth Commander 10 strategy on the same premium, age, years, and hypothetical index path. The control labels the strategy type, rate, index, and context so caps, participation rates, triggers, spreads, and fixed-account choices are not treated as interchangeable.

Crediting design

How the interest-crediting choices are framed

Growth Commander 10 currently shows 14 indexed or fixed crediting options, including S&P 500 Index and Fixed Account, with 11 volatility-controlled index options grouped separately. These choices matter because caps, participation rates, fixed accounts, spreads, renewal terms, and fee-bearing rider variants are different mechanics and should not be ranked as one simple rate list.

  • S&P 500 Index: 7.85% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 11.7% annual cap, Fee-bearing option, 1.5% annual strategy fee
  • Fixed Account: 3.95% fixed account rate

Liquidity terms

Why access rules deserve as much attention as rates

A fixed indexed annuity can preserve more control than an income-only contract, but access is still governed by the surrender schedule, free-withdrawal terms, and waiver language. Those details are where many product comparisons become more meaningful than a simple rate list.

  • 10%/yr free withdrawal
  • 10 surrender years
  • Nursing home waiver

Verification note

Use carrier materials as term evidence, then confirm the current version

Carrier materials such as AF1542F.pdf help explain the contract language behind the data on this page; the latest document activity we see is Apr 8, 2026. For the current brochure, rate sheet, or specimen contract, confirm the state-specific version with the carrier or a licensed financial professional.

  • Rates and rider terms can vary by state and issue age
  • Carrier guarantees depend on claims-paying ability
  • Current contract forms should be confirmed before purchase
