How crediting works: the participation rate keeps a share of positive index returns; a down year credits 0%, never a loss. A participation strategy tracks the index within its terms. What is a cap vs participation? →
Assumptions: illustrative — applies JourneyMark 10's published participation rate (282% on Citi Flexi-Beta 5 ER Index) to a calibrated proprietary/volatility-controlled hypothetical index path (~1.9%/yr average, including down years) with a 0% floor over 20 years; 2-year credits are applied only at completed term anniversaries. Growth starts from a bonus-adjusted illustrative account value: $100,000 premium + $6,500 premium bonus (6.5%) = $106,500. Bonus vesting and withdrawal treatment follow the contract. Product analyst notes

How to think about this contract

Why it can stand out

  • Optional Expanse Rider available in two variants on the live feed — a level-payments version and an increasing-payments version — for buyers choosing between a higher fixed starting payout or a smaller starting payout designed to step up over time.
  • Premium bonus is filed on this ten-year contract on the live feed — additional credit applied to the contract value at issue, on top of the index-linked or fixed-rate strategy crediting, with a vesting schedule that runs alongside the surrender ladder.
  • Longest member of the JourneyMark family — the ten-year surrender period gives the carrier room to credit higher caps and a premium bonus that a shorter-window FIA in the same family does not carry.
  • Multi-index growth menu pairs the S&P 500 with engineered volatility-controlled indexes from Goldman Sachs and Citi — broader allocation choice than a single-index FIA, sitting alongside a fixed-rate bucket and backed by Integrity Life (Western & Southern Financial Group).

What to confirm

  • The Expanse Rider carries a published annual fee on the live feed — review the fee against the rider's guaranteed lifetime withdrawal rate, since the fee compounds against the contract value while the rider is in force.
  • The premium bonus has a multi-year vesting schedule — surrendering or fully exiting the contract before the bonus is fully vested forfeits the unvested portion, so the bonus is an income- and full-term-hold incentive, not a free upfront credit.
  • Ten-year surrender period is a long commitment — the published ladder runs the full ten years before the schedule expires, so an unplanned partial exit beyond the annual free-withdrawal allowance carries a charge over a longer window than JourneyMark 5 or JourneyMark 7.
  • JourneyMark 10 is not available in New York on the live feed — buyers in New York are looking at a different filing in this carrier's catalog, not this contract.

Not ideal for

Buyers in New York (this contract excludes New York on the live feed), buyers who want a short-window FIA without a bonus-and-surrender lock-up (JourneyMark 5 is the five-year sibling), buyers who want a middle-length seven-year surrender ladder (JourneyMark 7), or buyers who want a guaranteed-rate-only MYGA without any indexed-strategy crediting.

Common questions about JourneyMark 10

Can I lose money in JourneyMark 10?

A negative index return by itself does not reduce the contract's account value: JourneyMark 10 credits 0% — the floor — for that indexed period. The account value can still decrease from applicable rider fees, Performance Rate Rider or other strategy charges, administrative charges, withdrawals, surrender charges, or other contract-specific deductions. In years with no credited interest, those deductions can reduce the account value. Up to 5% of your value can be withdrawn each year without a charge; withdrawals above the penalty-free amount during the surrender period can incur a surrender charge.

Is the Expanse Rider - Level Payments income rider worth the 1% fee?

It depends on whether you will use the guaranteed income. If you are accumulating only, you can skip it. If you want guaranteed lifetime income later, the 3.2% withdrawal rate can make it worthwhile — model it in the Income tab of the analyzer above.

When can I access my money without a surrender charge?

Up to 5% of your account value each year is penalty-free. The scheduled surrender charges run 10 years; after that the surrender-charge schedule ends. Bonus vesting, market value adjustments when applicable, and other contract rules can still affect the amount available. The Liquidity tab of the analyzer shows the year-by-year surrender charge.

How do JourneyMark 10's crediting strategies compare?

Use "Compare against" in the analyzer to overlay another current JourneyMark 10 strategy on the same premium, age, years, and hypothetical index path. The control labels the strategy type, rate, index, and context so caps, participation rates, triggers, spreads, and fixed-account choices are not treated as interchangeable.

Crediting design

How the interest-crediting choices are framed

JourneyMark 10 currently shows 14 distinct indexed or fixed crediting choices across 21 displayed rate entries, including S&P 500 Index and Fixed Account, with 10 volatility-controlled index options grouped separately. These choices matter because caps, participation rates, fixed accounts, spreads, renewal terms, and fee-bearing rider variants are different mechanics and should not be ranked as one simple rate list.

  • S&P 500 Index: 51% annual participation rate
  • S&P 500 Index: 43% annual participation rate
  • Fixed Account: 4.8% fixed account rate
  • Fixed Account: 4% fixed account rate

Income rider language

What to look for before treating the rider as income

Expanse Rider - Level Payments is the main income rider listed for this product. Rider terms can affect the tradeoff between future lifetime withdrawals, contract value, beneficiary value, and cost, so the exact state version and rider election should be confirmed before comparing it to annuitization or income-only contracts.

  • 3.2% withdrawal rate
  • 1% rider fee
  • 10 deferral years

Liquidity terms

Why access rules deserve as much attention as rates

A fixed indexed annuity can preserve more control than an income-only contract, but access is still governed by the surrender schedule, free-withdrawal terms, and waiver language. Those details are where many product comparisons become more meaningful than a simple rate list.

  • 5%/yr free withdrawal
  • 10 surrender years
  • Nursing home waiver
  • RMD waiver
  • Terminal illness waiver

Verification note

Use carrier materials as term evidence, then confirm the current version

Carrier materials such as QRS20251115.pdf help explain the contract language behind the data on this page; the latest document activity we see is Apr 8, 2026. For the current brochure, rate sheet, or specimen contract, confirm the state-specific version with the carrier or a licensed financial professional.

  • Rates and rider terms can vary by state and issue age
  • Carrier guarantees depend on claims-paying ability
  • Current contract forms should be confirmed before purchase
